Indigenous Child Welfare Law

Namês Sâkahikan Sitoskatowin

Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation Child and Family Services Law

This law affirms the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation’s inherent right to self-determination and exclusive authority over child and family services for its members. It establishes a culturally grounded framework to protect and support children and families, guided by Cree values and traditions. The law creates new governance structures and programs to ensure the well-being of children, both on and off reserve, while emphasizing community responsibility and cultural continuity.
